How do you support NNSA?
I am a program analyst support contractor and conduct logistics for the Human Capital and Business Operations (HCBO) under Defense Programs. I coordinate with multiple NNSA offices and facilitate logistics support for office space allocation, construction initiatives, security measures, and Information Technology assistance. I provide customer service and maintain communication with multiple stakeholders.

What is your personal background, and how has that shaped you and your approach to your career?
I am a U.S. Army veteran with 10 years of experience. I was an Aviation Operations Specialist during my service in the Army. My focus was operations, but towards the end of my career, I was heavily involved in strategic planning and contingency of operations (COOP) and contingency of government (COG). My service in the Army shaped me into becoming the best version of myself, and taught me how to effectively lead, teach, and mentor people.

What did you study in school and how did it impact you personally and professionally?
I studied business administration with a focus on leadership. Switching my major early on was a decision I faced; however, it was best for me because I was able to impact my organization with effective leadership and I was able to incorporate that leadership daily.

What led you to a career in nuclear security?
What led me to my career in nuclear security was being fascinated with everything this organization is a part of. The Army stationed me in the local DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area, and I often heard of a few opportunities that were out there. Once I started researching about NNSA and its mission, I was instantly hooked.

What is the best part about your job?
The best part of my job is the professionalism all around me. At first, getting out of the military was a scary experience, but I soon realized I had nothing to worry about once I began working with my highly professional team. My team in HCBO is the main reason I love coming to work every day. Each day I come in with a mindset of desiring to grow and get better in order to become a subject matter expert in my job. Working here makes me want to be the best version of myself every day.

What is your proudest NNSA accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment while working here is simply being recognized for my work. When I tell people I have been here for a short time, most seem shocked. I am the type to learn fast and move fast. I do all I can to make any organization better with my impact.

Tell us something interesting about yourself.
One fun fact about me is: I love football. I’m a big supporter of both college football and the NFL. I am a University of Southern California and Las Vegas Raiders fan. My hobbies include working on cars, whether it is rebuilding engines for fun, or even learning something new about a car. Another hobby of mine is spending time in the gym.

Do you have any highlights/accolades from your time supporting NNSA?
I do not as of now; however, in the near future, I am ready to tackle whatever project is thrown my way!

What advice would you have for anyone interested in a career in nuclear security?
For anyone interested in a career in nuclear security, I recommend looking into opportunities to grow and better yourself, both personally and professionally. Never sell yourself short and settle for small things. Always work to become the best version of yourself and strive for greatness!

Who is someone that inspires you and why.
My parents inspire me because of the sacrifices they made for me while I was growing up. If I had to choose, I would say my father inspired me most. He moved to the U.S. in the 1990s from Mexico to seek a better life. He is the epitome of what it is to be a hard worker. Since I can remember, he has always sacrificed for the family to make us happy and make ends meet. He always woke up early and worked until late that night. He has always worked two jobs and still does to this day. He is the most selfless person I know.

How do you plan to celebrate/commemorate this Hispanic Heritage Month?
Usually around this time, I am around loved ones to celebrate and spend time with one another. This year might be a little different. I plan on reaching out to one of the numerous non-profit organizations in the National Capital Region that work for the Hispanic and Latino community. I want to empower young Hispanics and Latinos, and show that regardless of where you come from, the opportunities out there to take on are endless.
