High-flying members of the Office of Secure Transportation’s (OST’s) aviation team were recently presented with awards for their outstanding contributions to aviation, education, and flight safety, and especially their relentless dedication throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. An OST Boeing 737 aircraft served as a backdrop for the ceremony, which was attended by OST leadership, King Aerospace management, and OST employees in the office’s Albuquerque hangar.

Congratulations to all the OST aviation professionals on these incredible awards. Their individual accomplishments and continued dedication to the mission make them extraordinary representatives of OST, NNSA and the Department of Energy.

“Congratulations to all the OST aviation professionals on these incredible awards,” said NNSA Assistant Deputy Administrator for Secure Transportation Vincent Fisher. “Their individual accomplishments and continued dedication to the mission make them extraordinary representatives of OST, NNSA and the Department of Energy.”

Two OST aviation staff members were recognized by the annual Interagency Committee for Aviation Policy (ICAP) Federal Aviation Safety Awards. It is a government-wide competition that recognizes employees whose aviation accomplishments contributed to improving or sustaining the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of one or more aspects of federal flight and contracted air services programs.

In the Professional Award Pilot category, Robert Ring was recognized by ICAP as the premier Federal Aviation Professional in a line pilot position. He was cited for doing an outstanding job as a federal pilot and assistant chief of standards. In this role, Ring flew OST’s 737 Combi aircraft as a pilot in command and maintained and revised key aviation operations manuals.

In the Professional Award Operations category, ICAP awarded Craig Alan Campbell, an OST flight operations specialist, as the premier Federal Aviation Professional in an operational position. Campbell worked as a contractor supporting flight operations for the Aviation Operations Division. In this role, he worked flight schedules, pre-mission activities, flight plans, and real-time tracking of aircraft missions in progress.

  • In the Aircraft Maintainer category, Art Ray, chief quality inspector, was named the premier Federal Aviation Professional in an aircraft maintenance position. As a contractor supporting aircraft maintenance for the Aviation Operations Division, Ray oversaw Part 145 maintenance operations and worked requirements for aircraft modifications.

Through their aviation excellence and exceptional dedication, the members of NNSA continue to enhance the security of the Nation.
