WASHINGTON – The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has launched an effort to develop an Enterprise Blueprint. The Blueprint will define NNSA’s integrated priorities for the capabilities to achieve needed capacity, resilience, and responsiveness across the distributed enterprise.
NNSA’s mission is essential to the security of the United States and its partners and allies, and the Nuclear Security Enterprise must keep pace with the dynamic global environment. Although NNSA has started modernizing the Enterprise, a clear and well-understood vision of its future will support both near-term execution and longer-term planning.
The Enterprise Blueprint, expected to be completed by September 2024, will outline plans for modern production capabilities, science and technology infrastructure, aspects of future business systems, and integration of new technologies and processes.
Dr. Linda Bauer, a former deputy director of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, has been detailed to NNSA to advance this effort.
“Our enterprise was first created during the Manhattan Project era, and then refocused on science-based stockpile stewardship and consolidated after the Cold War ended,” said Jill Hruby, Under Secretary for Nuclear Security of the U.S. Department of Energy and Administrator of NNSA. “We now can reimagine it for a third time. Once completed, this Blueprint will guide actions and decisions to ensure the responsive and resilient enterprise that we need to deliver on our mission and support the country’s national security for decades to come.”
