NNSA Administrator Hruby's statement on the passing of former Secretary of Defense Ash Carter

For decades, Ash Carter was a source of inspiration, both for myself and many others in the national security community.  His unique ability to combine a deep understanding of technology with an equally deep knowledge of history allowed him to develop thorough insights into all aspects of U.S. defense and national security; from fundamental research to procurement and war fighting.  And he knew how to get things done while respecting the bureaucracy.  In particular, his firm grasp and appreciation for nuclear weapons policy, deterrence, and physics has shaped the world we had the privilege to share with him. 

Above all else, Ash was a genuinely kind and decent person, and an amazing leader.  The nuclear weapons community, among all the others he contributed to, will miss his sheer intelligence, deep experience, and genuine grace.  I will miss him greatly and will work to honor his legacy.
