How do you support NNSA?
I work in NNSA’s Office of Management and Budget, managing a team that performs analytical studies such as Analysis of Alternatives and Business Case Analyses. Our team also develops and reviews cost estimates in support of NNSA capital acquisition projects.
What is your personal background, and how has that shaped you and your approach to your career?
I was born in India, where I studied up through my undergraduate education. I then moved to the U.S. for advanced studies. I realized early that hard work and persistence pay dividends, and I have embraced this philosophy throughout my career. In addition, treating people with respect and kindness and showing empathy are second-nature to me. People will remember how you cared and made them feel and will respond positively, whether it is at work or in your daily life.
People will remember how you cared and made them feel.
What did you study in school and how did it impact you personally and professionally?
I studied engineering in both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. On top of that, I completed a graduate program in business administration.
What led you to a career in nuclear security?
I needed a change. I had spent 30 years of my career in automotive research and development. I designed and developed cars in the private sector, as well as ground systems for the U.S. Army.
What is the best part about your job?
Touring the facilities like our labs, plants, and sites.
What is your proudest accomplishment while supporting NNSA?
There is no single great accomplishment. Whenever a staff member successfully completes a project, it is a proud moment for me. It's like a parent admiring their child participating in a soccer game and winning!
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I play tennis and am an aspiring guitar player! At the moment, I can only play open chords.
What advice would you have for anyone interested in a career in public service?
Never stop learning – be a lifelong student. Have a balanced life and appreciate and be grateful for the privileges that many cannot afford.
Who is someone that inspires you and why?
Mahatma Gandhi, because of his single-mindedness and perseverance to unite the country in peaceful protest against colonial oppression.
How do you plan to commemorate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month?
I plan to just reflect and be full of gratitude for what life has offered me. I will also keep in my thoughts everyone who supported me get this far. In the same token, I plan to be open to helping others take on life’s challenges.
