In October 2021, the Office of International Nuclear Energy Policy and Cooperation with the Jordan Atomic Energy Agency completed a study considering the implications of Jordan’s adoption of a dual track waste management and disposal policy. In a dual track approach, a country pursues a national nuclear waste management and disposal program while exploring potential opportunities to collaborate with other countries in the management and disposal of each country’s spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive waste. Jordan is currently still planning its nuclear program, so exploring cooperation with other countries could present options for waste management and disposal that a national program would not.
