The DOE-MOIT R&D agreement establishes a legal framework for comprehensive cooperation between the U.S. DOE and the Czech MOIT on civilian nuclear energy R&D.

On March 26, 2014, U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Jan Mládek signed a Research and Development (R&D) Agreement, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with the Czech Republic in civilian nuclear energy matters. The agreement enables in-depth research collaboration between both countries on next-generation reactors, advanced nuclear fuels and materials testing, advanced fuel cycle technologies, used fuel disposition and waste management technologies, and nuclear safety. Earlier in the day, Secretary Moniz, U.S. Ambassador to the Czech Republic Norman Eisen, and Czech President Milos Zeman officially opened the U.S.-Czech Republic Civil Nuclear Cooperation Center at the Czech Technical University in Prague. This center will serve as a catalyst for scientists and researchers from U.S. and Czech universities and national laboratories to collaborate and share information on advanced civilian nuclear energy technologies.
