The Honorable Tamia N. Gordon serves as Chief Operating Officer for the Loan Programs Office (LPO), which provides loans and loan guarantees to help deploy innovative clean energy, advanced transportation, and Tribal energy projects in the United States. Ms. Gordon directs all organizational activities based on broad assessments and evaluations of long-term objectives and sets all internal control standards for effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity. She also determines the financial and personnel resources needed to achieve mission objectives and support operations, while assisting the LPO Director in all aspects of successful management and operations.
Also at DOE, Ms. Gordon was the Director (acting) and Principal Deputy Director for the Office of Energy Justice and Equity where she advised the Secretary on the effects of energy policies. She also provided financial and technical assistance in the energy sector to communities, small businesses, and educational institutions, while driving Departmental initiatives related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), workforce and economic development, and climate awareness. She likewise had cognizance over DOE Civil Rights/EEO matters.
In her prior federal service, Ms. Gordon was Deputy Vice Chairman and a Veterans Law Judge, leading a team of 375 Veterans Law Judges, attorneys, and professional administrative staff dedicated to resolving veteran appeals regarding eligibility for service-connected benefits, such as disability compensation, educational and vocational assistance, healthcare services, and burial benefits. For the decade prior, Ms. Gordon was appointed to the Federal Administrative Law bench. She served as the Associate Chief Administrative Law Judge for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals, where she successfully stood up the New Orleans Field Office in a new jurisdiction. She also served as Hearing Office Chief Judge for the Social Security Administration, Office of Hearings Operations, in both Miami, FL and Fresno, CA and as Acting Chief Judge in Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers, FL Hearing Offices. In all her leadership roles, Ms. Gordon was responsible for supervising various staffs, including judges, attorneys, paralegals, and administrative professionals. Ms. Gordon is also an Adjunct Business Law Professor at Tulane University Freeman School of Business, in New Orleans, LA.
Ms. Gordon served on active duty as a U.S. Marine Corps Officer and Judge Advocate and was hand- selected to serve as a liaison to the White House Commission, advised on matters related to the Global War on Terror, and embarked on what would become a high-profile, high-impact litigation career as a Marine Corps prosecutor. After transitioning to career civil service, she served as Associate Deputy General Counsel in the Department of Defense, where she represented DoD’s interests in Federal habeas corpus litigation related to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She was then selected to assist in the stand-up of the U.S. Army’s Warrior Transition Command, dedicated to the support of wounded, ill, and injured soldiers.
Ms. Gordon earned an MBA in Global Leadership from Tulane University, an AA in Arabic Studies and Linguistics from the Defense Language Institute, a JD in Law from the University of San Francisco School of Law, an MS in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BS in Chemistry from American University.
