The James R. Schlesinger Medal for Energy Security honors an individual’s distinguished contributions to advancing our understanding of the threats, opportunities and energy policy choices impacting the domestic and international energy security interests of the United States through analysis, policy or practice.
The first Medal was given to Daniel Yergin on October 1, 2014, the 37th anniversary of the Energy Department's formal opening in 1977.
The second was given to Dr. Phil Sharp, President of Resources for the Future and former U.S. Congressman from Indiana, on January 20, 2016.
The third Medal will be awarded Friday, January 13, 2017 to Charles Curtis, the first FERC chairman and former Acting Secretary of Energy under the Clinton Administration.
