The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), is hosting a free webinar titled “Facility- and Community-Scale Project Development” on Wednesday, September 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain Time.
Taking on facility-and community-scale energy projects can be a good way for tribes to gain experience and expertise in project development while limiting risk, but like utility-scale projects, these projects also have their own unique challenges. For example, tribes often run into difficulty when it comes to finding money to build these smaller-scale projects. This webinar will outline options for financing and addressing other challenges related to facility- and community-scale project development. Attendees will learn about available financing mechanisms that can allow tribes to develop projects with limited to no upfront capital costs, such as community solar models.
Presentations will include:
- A tribal case study on Seneca Energy’s wind, solar, and natural gas projects, by Anthony Giacobbe of the Seneca Nation of Indians
- Developing solar photovoltaic projects using the Community Solar Model, by Lucas Kappel of the Bonneville Environmental Foundation
- Demonstration of the new Tribal Energy Atlas, by Anelia Milbrandt of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
