The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with Western Area Power Administration, is pleased to present a webinar titled "Project Development for Long Term Tribal Energy" on Wednesday, July 27, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mountain Daylight Time. This webinar will introduce the project development framework the Office of Indian Energy developed to facilitate tribal energy projects, which includes five steps:
- Estimate project savings and production potential
- Assess project options
- Refine the project
- Implement the project
- Plan for ongoing operations and maintenance.
Liz Doris, State, Local, and Tribal Laboratory Program Manager at DOE’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory will explain what these project development steps entail and why they are key to the success of any tribal energy project. Rounding out the narrative, three guest speakers will highlight case-in-point tribal success stories. Ken Haukaas from the Rosebud Sioux Tribe will discuss the development of the Tribe’s strategic energy plan and Tim Willink from GRID Alternatives will provide examples of successful partnerships with both the Rosebud Sioux and Bishop Paiute Tribes. Darien Cabral with Northern Pueblos Housing Authority will present on the 1-megawatt community grid-tied solar array at Picuris Pueblo.
