2020 Survey Details and Changes from 2019
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has administered the Federal Employee Viewpoint Survey (FEVS) annually since 2010 (and biannually from 2002 to 2008). Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OPM delayed the start of the 2020 survey from its typical May-June timeframe to September-October. DOE employees received their invitation to participate on September 17, 2020.
The FEVS includes 71 core survey items plus additional work/life, demographic, and agency[1]specific items. Because of the significant work disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, OPM condensed the core survey to 38 items and added a section of questions specifically related to work disruptions and a widespread prevalence of telework during the pandemic. These changes should be kept in mind when comparing results to previous years.
Core Survey Results Summary
11,579 employees (77% of the eligible workforce) provided responses to the 2020 survey providing a high degree of confidence that results are representative of the workforce. Employee Engagement and Global Satisfaction Indices continue to rate favorably agency wide.
