November 1, 2022Welcome to the first edition of the Grid Deployment Office (GDO) monthly newsletter. Here you'll find GDO’s news and updates, open funding opportunities, recent meeting materials, and more. Supporting both the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act, GDO works to provide electricity to everyone, everywhere by maintaining and investing in critical generation facilities to ensure resource adequacy and improving and expanding transmission and distribution systems.
Our mission is to deploy grid modernization solutions that will help us achieve the Administration’s clean energy goals and mitigate climate change impacts, while ensuring the availability of clean, firm generation capacity such as hydroelectric and nuclear energy. We encourage you to share this registration link with your colleagues and stay tuned for more GDO activities.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Requests Industry Input on Existing Resources to Modernize and Expand America's Power Grid
On October 7, 2022, DOE issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking feedback from industry and university stakeholders on the existing tools and resources available to bolster the capabilities of states, territories, and Tribes to execute plans that will enhance the resilience of their electric grids. Responses from this RFI will help establish DOE’s Grid Resilience Planning and Resource Hub—a new resource funded by the President’s BIL that will accelerate the deployment of transformative projects to help ensure the reliability of the grid, so all American communities have access to affordable, reliable, clean electricity anytime, anywhere. Comments must be received by November 21, 2022, by 5 pm ET.

Secretary Granholm’s First Trip to Puerto Rico Focused on Solution-based Energy Action Plans
On Thursday, October 20 through Friday, October 21, U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm traveled to Puerto Rico to meet with senior members of the Puerto Rican government, Federal Emergency Management Agency and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development officials in Puerto Rico, and local utility leadership. The purpose of this visit was to listen and learn about the issues impacting the island’s grid resilience and recovery so that Puerto Rico can emerge stronger from intensifying extreme weather events that are exacerbated by climate change. GDO Launches Grid and Transmission Program Conductor
GDO launched the Grid and Transmission Program Conductor to help states, Tribal Nations, industry, and other stakeholders navigate through available finance mechanisms and initiatives to find the program that is best for them. Acting as a clearinghouse for GDO’s transmission and grid resilience funding opportunities, the Conductor's goal is to provide resources and open lines of communication to maximize the effectiveness of these programs and work with stakeholders to catalyze the development of a resilient, modern grid and transmission infrastructure for a reliable, affordable, and clean energy future.
