DOE ordered Hefei Midea Laundry Appliance Co. Ltd. to pay a $800,000 civil penalty, and for DOE to resolve case numbers 2020-SE-20003 and 2020-SE-20004 without the assessment of any civil penalties. After Midea America Corporation ("Midea America") had manufactured and distributed in commerce in the U.S. multiple units (2020-SE-20003) and multiple units (2020-SE-20004) of the noncompliant clothes washer basic numbers MAE50-S1102GPS/M-13-K4 and MAE70-S1402GPS/M-13-K4. The Order adopted a Compromise Agreement, which reflected settlement terms between DOE and Midea America.
On March 23, 2020, DOE issued a Notice of Noncompliance Determination to Midea America finding that the clothes washers, which includes basic model numbers MAE50-S1102GPS/M-13-K4 and MAE70-S1402GPS/M-13-K4 does not comply with applicable energy conservation standards basic on DOE testing. Midea America provided DOE records showing the number of units Midea America distributed.
