Background Information

On November 2, 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) released a Request for Information (RFI) seeking input on potential funding for workforce development through FECM's University Training and Research Program.

The purpose of this RFI is to seek input on various questions regarding potential funding for workforce development efforts through new curricula on carbon management informed by community knowledge and values. Funding would provide the benefits of:

  • Developing a pipeline of underrepresented students into the carbon management workforce;
  • Broadening the network of higher-education institutions with curricula focused on carbon management; and
  • Generating learning materials for other universities, the public, and FECM on how carbon management can be enhanced by incorporating the perspectives of different cultures and communities throughout the United States.

This is a request for information only and DOE is not accepting application at this time. DOE may use information collected from this RFI for internal planning and decision-making purposes.

The deadline to submit responses for this request for information has closed.
