Dr. Grace Bochenek, Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory, will retire effective February 28, 2018.

February 9, 2018Dr. Grace Bochenek, Director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), will retire effective February 28, 2018, following more than 31 years of dedicated federal government service.
Since 2014, she has led NETL through discovery and maturation of technologies that have increased the effectiveness and efficiency of resource development, improved energy conversion, and ensured environmental sustainability. Dr. Bochenek has also been an avid champion for STEM and building the next generation of engineers and scientists.
Through her leadership, she elevated NETL’s position within the Department’s National Laboratory System and leveraged core scientific and technical competencies to bring innovative technology solutions to address America’s fossil energy challenges.
“Dr. Bochenek brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to NETL,” said Steven Winberg, Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy. “During her tenure, NETL solidified its reputation as a premier energy and technology laboratory. I thank Dr. Bochenek for her service and wish her every success as she opens this new chapter in her life.”
Upon Dr. Bochenek’s retirement, Dr. Sean Plasynski, Executive Director of the Technology Development and Integration Center at NETL, will serve as Acting Director.
