AIKEN, S.C. – The previous EM Savannah River Site (SRS) liquid waste contractor, Savannah River Remediation (SRR), recently earned an overall “excellent” performance rating and nearly $16 million or 95.5% of the available fee for the evaluation period of Oct. 1, 2021 through Jan. 31, 2022, according to the award fee determination scorecard.
“SRR management demonstrated a significantly high level of involvement in achieving key milestones toward increasing the level of operational activities,” said Mike Budney, DOE SRS manager.
SRR also continued to provide a proactive and aggressive response to the COVID-19 pandemic and implemented measures reducing worker health risk and minimizing impacts to the liquid waste mission, said Budney.
The cleanup program releases information relating to contractor fee payments — earned by completing work called for in the contracts — to further transparency in its cleanup program.
Following are some of SRR’s noteworthy achievements for the rating period:
- Worked to install waste retrieval equipment and infrastructure on 17 salt and sludge tanks in F&H Tank Farms.
- Completed several initiatives at the Saltstone Production Facility (SPF) that improve plant operability and capability as the Salt Waste Processing Facility (SWPF) processing rates are increased.
- Continued to make significant progress in replacing aged or failed utilities on the East Hill in H-Tank Farm.
- Efficiently and effectively supported the efforts to transition management of the liquid waste contract to Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) concurrent with the initial phases of transition of SWPF from Parsons to SRR/SRMC.
SRR’s contract performance continued for an additional 26 days, and the contractor earned 100% of the available fee of more than $3.3 million that covered the transition to the SRMC contract. The transition of the liquid waste mission from SRR to SRMC was effective Feb. 27, 2022. SRR operated the SRS liquid waste program for 12 years.
