DOE Office of Environmental Management (EM) funding supports Energy I-Corps, a key initiative of DOE's Office of Technology Transitions (OTT). The program sends teams of researchers and industry mentors through an immersive two-month training where the researchers define technology value propositions, conduct stakeholder discovery interviews and develop viable market pathways for their technologies.

OTT recently conducted a Q&A with Erika Suzuki, entrepreneurial lead and co-founder of Gamma Reality, Inc., which took shape through Energy I-Corps and has achieved success through commercial sales, project contracts and Small Business Innovation Research grants. The 11-person startup based in the San Francisco Bay Area is working to make radiation detection safer and more efficient through real-time, 3D radiation mapping technologies.
