What is your name and what do you do at EM?

Josh Mengers – EM Federal Project Director at the Energy Technology Engineering Center (ETEC)

What branch did you serve in; when; where stationed?

Army; 2001 – 2005; Bamberg, Germany

Most memorable event/moment during your service?

When I was deployed to Iraq in 2003, I was assigned to the 4,400-Megawatt project led by the United States Agency for International Development to be a project manager to help bring their country’s electrical grid back to its pre-war production levels.

How has your military service helped prepare you for the job you do in EM?

The can-do spirit that I learned in the Army has been very helpful at a site like ETEC. I don’t always know the challenges that I will encounter, but I remain positive in order to get the job done.

When did you begin working for EM and what got you interested in the cleanup mission?

I came to EM in 2019. I was already in the DOE working on renewable energy development. The position at ETEC offered me the opportunity to have a more tangible and immediate impact on the environment.
