Amanda T. Lowery is the Director for the Office of Security Vetting within the Office of Environment, Health, Safety, and Security. This office’s primary focus is to strengthen the national security enterprise by ensuring Headquarters personnel are assessed for their loyalty, integrity, and ability to protect classified information, and other sensitive unclassified information, through the management and implementation of security clearance functions, and the Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12)/Personal Identity Verification process. This includes the processing and adjudication of security clearance requests for Headquarters personnel; the processing of security clearance requests for Other Government Agency personnel who require access to Restricted Data, including members of Congress and their staff; the processing and adjudication of HSPD-12 requests; being the chief organization responsible for the Classified Visit program at Headquarters facilities; and managing the implementation of the Trusted Workforce 2.0 requirements for Headquarters, as it relates to both the cleared and uncleared workforce.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Lowery was the Director for the Office of Headquarters Personnel Security Operations, whose primary mission is ensuring that granting an individual access to classified matter or special nuclear material is consistent with national security interests and does not endanger the common defense and security of the nation.
Ms. Lowery began her career in 2002 with Department of Energy as a Special Agent/Criminal Investigator with the Office of Special Operations, serving the mission of executive protection for the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Energy. Ms. Lowery has a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from George Mason University.
