The U.S. Department of Energy's 2015 Wind Vision explored and quantified the economic, environmental, and social costs and benefits of a scenario in which wind provides 10% of all U.S. electrical demand in 2020, 20% in 2030, and 35% in 2050. The 2015 report also includes a Roadmap that describes actions stakeholders can pursue to achieve the vision and its underlying wind deployment scenario. When the Wind Vision was released in 2015, DOE announced its intention to engage the wind community from time to time to track progress and update the Roadmap periodically.
During 2016–2017, DOE sponsored a series of working sessions to assess the Wind Vision Roadmap’s status and needs across the vision’s topical areas, summarized in the 2016–2017 Status Assessment and Update on the Wind Vision Roadmap report.
The status assessment and update effort resulted in an updated version of the Wind Vision Detailed Roadmap Actions: 2017 Update. Changes from the original 2015 Wind Vision report (specifically, Appendix M) are indicated using color coding.
