December 12, 2018DOE’s Wind Energy Technologies Office is supporting a $41 million national offshore wind R&D consortium to facilitate the development of the U.S. offshore wind industry through wind plant technology advancement; wind resource and physical site characterization; and installation, operations and maintenance, and supply chain technology solutions. In 2018, DOE competitively selected the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as administrator of this consortium. This fall, the R&D Consortium held the first meeting of its Board of Directors and approved the initial R&D roadmap, which was developed with industry input to identify the greatest challenges and priorities that developers face in reducing costs and risks as they develop offshore wind projects in the United States. On December 11, NYSERDA published the priority technical challenges for R&D projects that it intends to fund under the National Offshore Wind R&D Consortium’s first solicitation in 2019. See DOE’s new web page for more information about the offshore wind R&D consortium.
