May 6, 2024In 2021, Class 8 trucks represented one third of all trucks over 10,000 lbs but nearly two-thirds of truck miles, according to the recently released 2021 Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (VIUS). Long haul freight is typically moved by Class 8 truck-tractors, and in 2021 they were driven 137% more miles per truck than any other truck class. Class 3 trucks, used for local deliveries, as farm trucks, or as personal vehicles, accounted for 37% of all trucks over 10,000 lbs and 18% of truck miles.
