In 11 states, more than half of their energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions came from the transportation sector in 2019. When considering CO2 emissions from the residential, commercial, industrial, electric power, and transportation sectors, Hawaii had the highest percentage of CO2 emissions attributable to the transportation sector in 2019, at about 60%. Wyoming had the lowest percentage of CO2 emissions from the transportation sector at 13.5%. For the entire United States, the transportation sector accounted for 37.6% of energy-related CO2 emissions in 2019.
