In 2017 the United States exported 1.68 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of natural gas to Mexico and 0.92 Tcf to Canada, mainly traveling by pipeline. From 1970 to the early 1990’s most U.S. natural gas exports were transported as liquefied natural gas to Japan. From 2007 to 2017, natural gas exports to Mexico increased 477% while exports to Canada nearly doubled. Exports to other countries were in the form of liquefied natural gas.
