PNNL collaborates with industry stakeholders and standards development organizations to address technical issues that span a variety of applications and use cases. The following sections briefly describe the most significant engagements and recent highlights.
ANSI C136 – Standards for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment. PNNL provides ongoing technical support for this committee, with a focus on standards addressing energy reporting accuracy and sensor integration and performance. Support is provided through attendance at full committee meetings and engagement with sub-committees focused on specific standards.
PNNL contributions to ANSI C136 have been focused on the following published and in-development standards:
- ANSI C136.40—Solar Lighting Systems (Published)
- ANSI C136.41—Dimming Control Between an External Locking Type Photo Control and Ballast or Driver (Published)
- ANSI C136.48—Wireless Networked Lighting Controllers (Published)
- ANSI C136.54—Occupancy Detectors, Motions Sensors, Vacancy Detectors for Area Lighting (In development)
- ANSI C136.59—Multi-Use Co-Location Poles (In development)
ANSI C137 – Standards for Lighting Systems. PNNL provides ongoing technical support for this committee, with a focus on standards addressing energy reporting accuracy, interoperability, and system integration. Support is provided by attendance of full committee meetings and engagement with sub-committees focused on specific standards.
PNNL contributions to ANSI C137 have been focused on the following in-development standards:
- ANSI C137.9—Networked Lighting Systems Configuration Report (In development)
- ANSI C137.10—Sensor Data Models for Lighting Systems (In development)
ASHRAE SSPC 135 – Semantic Interoperability Working Group. PNNL is collaborating with other DOE national laboratories and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to provide ongoing technical support for the development of ASHRAE standard 223P “Semantic Data Model for Analytics and Automation Applications in Buildings,” with a focus on lighting and other electrical systems.
Illuminating Engineering Society. PNNL provides ongoing technical support to the committee that is updating Lighting Practice “LP-8-20, The Commissioning Process Applied to Lighting and Control Systems.”
Digital Twin Consortium. PNNL is engaging with Consortium stakeholders in the “Architecture Engineering, Construction and Operation” committee to explore the development resources that support the greater adoption of digital tools and workflows.
