Cascade Renewable Energy, a Cascade Engineering company, under the BOS-X funding opportunity, is developing an innovative racking system for commercial rooftops using polymers.
Approach
A 2010 Rocky Mountain Institute report estimated that structural systems alone cost about $0.95 per watt for rooftop installations. Cascade is developing a plastic-based photovoltaic (PV) racking system that reduces mechanical and electrical labor, as well as the cost of the structural system. The goal is to reduce total balance of system costs by 25%.

Cascade is incorporating a number of material and labor savings opportunities in a lightweight, low-cost, injection-molded plastic solar PV racking system.
