GM, Shell, and DOE Speakers Kicking Off the 2017 Annual Merit Review
On Monday, June 5, at 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, speakers from the transportation and energy industries will kick off the U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program and Vehicle Technologies Office Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting (AMR). The speakers include Daniel Simmons, Acting Assistant Secretary, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy; Dr. Joe Powell, Chief Scientist—Chemical Engineering, Shell; and Jon Lauckner, Chief Technology Officer, VP of Research and Development, and President of GM Ventures, General Motors. The AMR will be held June 5–9 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington, D.C. Information about the meeting, including a detailed schedule and hotel and travel details, can be found at the AMR website. All participants, including presenters and reviewers, must register to attend this meeting.
Development Assistance Opportunity for Roll-to-Roll Advanced Energy Materials Manufacturing
The Fuel Cell Technologies Office announces a call for cooperative research and development agreements (CRADAs) between national laboratories and industrial partners to address roll-to-roll (R2R) manufacturing challenges that will allow rapid transfer of manufacturing and processing technologies from the lab to the plant floor, resulting in less costly and more energy efficient products entering the marketplace. A U.S. Department of Energy laboratory consortium composed of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory was formed to enhance battery and fuel cell electrode performance, processing of water, and R2R manufacturing technologies using an advanced materials manufacturing approach. This consortium is now accepting proposals for CRADAs.

Webinars and Workshops
Webinar May 11: Manufacturing Competitiveness and Supply Chain Analyses for Hydrogen Refueling Stations
FCTO presented a live webinar titled "Manufacturing Competitiveness and Supply Chain Analyses for Hydrogen Refueling Stations" on May 11. During this webinar, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) discussed bottom-up manufacturing cost models developed for the main systems in a hydrogen station—including compressors, storage tanks, coolers, and heat exchangers and dispensers. NREL discussed the results of the models that show that there is room for cost reductions through economies of scale. See slides from this webinar (recording coming soon).
H2@ Scale Workshop
The Fuel Cell Technologies Office and the University of Houston hosted an H2@ Scale Workshop on May 23–24, 2017, in Houston, Texas. The workshop gathered stakeholder feedback on early-stage research and development (R&D) needs for H2@ Scale, identified opportunities to align R&D needs with industry priorities and national lab capabilities, and identified regional and near-term opportunities to advance H2@ Scale. This workshop built on the November workshop at NREL by providing stakeholders an opportunity to weigh in on early-stage R&D priorities to advance H2@ Scale. View the presentations.
