Energy Department Announces New National Laboratory Collaborations with 38 Small Businesses, Includes Hydrogen Storage and Fuel Cell Manufacturing Companies

Recently, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the 38 small businesses that will collaborate with national lab researchers through the Small Business Vouchers (SBV) pilot, including hydrogen storage and fuel cell manufacturing companies. SBV opens the DOE national labs to American small businesses, enabling them to tap into the intellectual and technical resources they need to overcome critical technology challenges for their advanced energy products and gain a global competitive advantage. Eight DOE national laboratories will receive funding to partner with 38 competitively selected small businesses across the country.

Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting Registration Now Open

Registration for the DOE's Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Program Annual Merit Review and Peer Evaluation Meeting (AMR) is now open. The AMR will be held June 5–9 in the Washington Marriott Wardman Park hotel in Washington, D.C. Information about the meeting, including a detailed schedule and hotel and travel details, can be found at the AMR website. All meeting participants must register to attend this meeting, including presenters and reviewers.

7 National Park Projects Enhanced by Clean Energy

The National Park Service offers breathtaking views, miles of hiking trails, and historic sites that captivate hundreds of millions of visitors each year. But, did you also know that you might be exploring a number of DOE initiatives as well, including hydrogen and fuel cells? These energy efficiency and renewable energy projects enhance the park experience and preserve our historic sites and natural wonders. Read EERE’s blog about DOE projects.

Webinars and Workshops

Upcoming Webinar May 11: Manufacturing Competitiveness and Supply Chain Analyses for Hydrogen Refueling Stations

FCTO will present a live webinar titled "Manufacturing Competitiveness and Supply Chain Analyses for Hydrogen Refueling Stations" on Thursday, May 11, from 12 to 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). During this webinar, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory will discuss bottom-up manufacturing cost models developed for the main systems in a hydrogen station—including compressors, storage tanks, coolers, and heat exchangers and dispensers. NREL will discuss the results of the models that show that there is room for cost reductions through economies of scale. Register for this webinar.

Webinar April 25: Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) Research Efforts Related to Electrolyzers for Grid Services

FCTO presented a live webinar titled "Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) Research Efforts Related to Electrolyzers for Grid Services" on Tuesday, April 25. Idaho National Lab (INL) introduced DOE's scope and technical approach related to electrolyzers as a controllable load. This webinar provided attendees an overview of this project and introduced the methods being proposed for demonstrating electrolyzers' advanced smart grid-enabling abilities to provide grid services. INL also introduced scenarios for hydrogen refueling station and grid infrastructure with a reference case in the Bay Area in California. See slides of this webinar (recording coming soon).
