EERE Web Approval Process and Governance

PLEASE NOTE: All new website requests will be denied until after the Energy.gov redesign is launched. If you need an exception to this guidance, have the federal project lead contact Liz Penniman and the EERE Digital Team.

The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) relies on its Web Governance Team (WGT) to ensure that EERE's websites meet organizational policies, goals, user needs, branding and content standards, and technical requirements. It also ensures that all federal and DOE website policies are followed.

Web Project Process and Approvals

The WGT does not review everyday maintenance work; web coordinators do not need the WGT's approval to add or delete content on EERE technology office websites.

Additionally, if you follow all EERE communication standards and guidance, you do not need to seek WGT approval for web updates. This includes lab-developed websites that are directed by and use federal funding from EERE technology offices.

To edit your office's site navigation, please send requests directly to the EERE Digital Team.

Follow these steps to check if you need WGT approval for your web projects:

  1. Use the WGT flowchart (internal) to determine if your team needs to consult the WGT. If yes, move to Step 2. If no, you can move forward with your project and do not need further approvals.

  2. Set up a meeting with the EERE Digital Team to discuss the specifics of your project, if WGT input is needed, where they may:
    • Give guidance on how to move forward in Energy.gov.
    • Arrange a separate meeting with technical, privacy, and security experts to determine technical solutions.
    • Ask you to attend a WGT meeting, if the team is requesting exceptions that need to be discussed with the full WGT and be given federal approvals.

If you have questions about your project or need assistance walking through the WGT flowchart, please contact the EERE Digital Team.
