Collegiate Wind Competition 2015

Seven collegiate teams from around the United States took part in the inaugural U.S. Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition Technical Challenge 2015, which was held at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s National Wind Technology Center. Teams that participated in the competition’s inaugural 2014 competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, were invited back to improve upon their designs and technical solutions.

Final Results

After a high-intensity three-day competition, Boise State University was named the winner of the Collegiate Wind Competition Technical Challenge 2015. Cal Maritime placed second. Pennsylvania State University, the winners of the Collegiate Wind Competition 2014, finished third and also won the siting challenge.

Since the Collegiate Wind Competition is intended to inspire and equip the next generation of wind professionals, the involvement of the wind industry is critical. The Energy Department is proud to have collaborated with Siemens Wind Power, Vaisala, Renewable Energy Systems - Americas, ReGenerate, Invenergy, KidWind, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to make the Collegiate Wind Competition 2015 Engineering Contest a success. The Energy Department’s Wind Program leads the nation's efforts to accelerate the deployment of wind power technologies through improved performance, lower costs, and reduced market barriers.
