A robust, domestic bioeconomy can support economic growth and help drive our country toward a low-carbon transportation future. As the bioeconomy grows, it must be efficient, reliable, and sustainable. This requires a well-integrated bioenergy supply chain—from biomass feedstock production in the field, to delivery, to the refinery, through fuel and product production, distribution, and end use. In parallel, we need to consider the unique environmental, economic, and social factors at each step, in each region. Meeting this challenge requires widespread knowledge- and information-sharing, with location-based context.

Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework

The Bioenergy KDF connects users with bioenergy data.

The U.S Department of Energy Bioenergy Technologies Office’s (BETO’s) Bioenergy Knowledge Discovery Framework—or Bioenergy KDF—provides access to a wide variety of data sets, publications, and visualization tools that support bioenergy research, analysis, and decision-making. In the Bioenergy KDF, you can search for information, explore key topics in bioenergy research and the bioeconomy, download data, and visualize information in an integrated manner. The Bioenergy KDF team recently redesigned the site to be more visually appealing, efficient to navigate, and easier to use.

Whether you have used it for years or are visiting for the first time, here are three reasons to check it out:

  1. Improved navigation: The redesigned Bioenergy KDF is curated to help users easily find the right data. New Key Topics pages highlight important focus areas and quickly direct users to relevant information. A new system of tagging all old and new content ensures that users can easily find all the Bioenergy KDF’s content on a subject and brings the most recent research to the forefront.
  2. Easier sharing: The new Bioenergy KDF makes it easier for researchers and data providers to share their work with the broader community; this will help the bioenergy community get more up-to-date information, faster.
  3. New content: New pages summarize recently completed BETO-directed projects on Short-Rotation Woody Biomass Sustainability and High-Octane Fuels, with key project findings along with data and publications. New pages on sustainable aviation fuel, bioenergy sustainability, and an updated biofuels techno-economic analysis database provide up-to-date information about BETO’s emerging areas of research and development and analysis.
