February 13: Live Webinar to Solicit Input on Solar Forecasting Metrics

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “Solar Forecasting Metrics” on Thursday, February 13, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. During this webinar, the Department of Energy (DOE), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and IBM will describe and solicit input on preliminary statistical and economic solar forecasting metrics and on proposed processes to determine baselines and target values for the metrics. The information gathered from this webinar will enable DOE, NOAA, NCAR, and IBM to develop a stakeholder-vetted set of metrics that is expected to serve as a reference document for the solar forecasting industry and users.

February 19: Live Webinar on The DOE Wind Vision

The Energy Department will present a live webinar titled “The DOE Wind Vision” on Wednesday, February 19, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Wind Program's Wind Vision initiative is an effort to update and expand the 2008 “20% Wind Energy by 2030” report. Given the huge changes within the industry and the U.S. energy market since 2008, the Department launched this initiative to examine U.S. wind power research, development, and deployment with the intention of creating a new vision based on current market conditions. Project Manager Jessica Lin-Powers of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Wind Vision team will provide an overview of the project and NREL’s Wind and Water Technology Deployment Manager Ian Baring-Gould will describe in detail the siting, deployment, and permitting framework.

February 26: Live Webinar on Strategic Energy Planning

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Indian Energy, EERE’s Tribal Energy Program, and the Western Area Power Administration will present the next Tribal Renewable Energy Series webinar titled “Strategic Energy Planning” on Wednesday, February 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Attendees will learn about developing a strategic energy plan using key aspects of successful energy planning and available information and resources. The webinar will also explain how a strategic energy plan enables a Tribe to mobilize long-term support that extends beyond changing political administrations, helps address barriers to energy development, and engages stakeholders from all segments of the community. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask the presenters questions during a brief Q&A session at the end of the webinar.

The Energy Department will present a live webcast titled “Successful Commissioning of Refrigeration Systems” on Thursday, February 27, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Refrigeration systems account for a significant portion of commercial building energy use especially in the food sales and service sector. Thousands of systems are installed annually in grocery and convenience stores, as well as food distribution and processing facilities. This webcast will share a new comprehensive resource, Refrigeration Commissioning Guide for Commercial and Industrial Systems, that will help owners, design teams, and operators navigate through the process of commissioning commercial and industrial refrigeration systems.

This webinar highlights themes that arose during a related workshop, including discussions on monitoring near-field interactions between marine mammals and marine renewable energy converters, characterizing the distribution and habitat use of marine animals in the vicinity of the converters, and measuring sound produced by marine renewable energy converters.
