POLYDOPAMINE/PTFE COMPOSITE COATING FOR LARGE-SCALE JOURNAL BEARINGS IN NEXT GENERATION ELECTRIC MACHINES

SurfTec, LLC – Fayetteville, AR

A novel nanoparticle composite coatings technology will be developed as a replacement for traditional journal bearing liners that use lead and bismuth. The successful implementation is expected to reduce friction by over 10% in lubricated conditions, increase wear-life more than 10%, and demonstrate >95% electrical efficiency during hard start and hard stop conditions compared to traditional bearings.
