Energy Department Selected New Manufacturing USA Institute to Revolutionize Energy-Intensive Industries
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Office, announced the American Institute of Chemical Engineers to lead new Manufacturing USA Institute. The Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment (RAPID) Institute will be the tenth Manufacturing USA Institute and fourth Energy Department-led institute. Leveraging up to $70 million in federal funding, subject to appropriations, and an additional $70 million in private cost-share commitments from over 130 partners, the RAPID Institute will focus on developing breakthrough technologies to boost the energy productivity and energy efficiency by 20 percent in five years through manufacturing processes in industries such oil and gas, pulp and paper and various domestic chemical manufacturers.
For more information about the RAPID Institute, read the entire announcement here.
AMO Selects 28 Colleges and Universities to Open Industrial Assessment Centers
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO), recently announced nearly $35 million for 28 higher education institutions from 25 states across the country selected to set up and operate regional Industrial Assessment Centers (IAC). The estimated period of performance for each award will be five years.
In addition, the IAC program has expanded to offer newly enhanced services in the areas of smart manufacturing, cybersecurity, water/wastewater, and energy management systems.
More information and a complete list of awardees can be found here.
FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: Industrial Assessment Center Technical Field Manager
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO), issued a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Industrial Assessment Centers Technical Field Manager.”
Up to $5 million in funding is now available for an IAC Technical Field Manager to be a liaison between the AMO Technology Manager and the individual IACs and provide technical assistance and outreach to all 28 centers. For more information, view the full solicitation and attend the informational webinar on December 20 at 12:00 PM EST.
NOTICE OF INTENT: Industrial Assessment Center Expansion
The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) intends to issue, on behalf of the Advanced Manufacturing Office (AMO), a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) entitled “Extending Industrial Assessment Centers to Underserved Areas.”
The goal of extending IACs to underserved areas is to encourage a broader and more diverse set of performers, and further expand the geographic reach of the IAC program to areas that are less likely to be adequately serviced because of their distance from the 28 IACs that were selected in the summer of 2016.
For more information, view the full notice of intent.
