U.S. Department of Energy Issues Notice of Intent to Request Public Comment to Inform Critical Materials Assessment

Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced its intent to issue a request for information (RFI) regarding an updated assessment of critical materials for energy.

Today, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced its intent to issue a request for information (RFI) regarding an updated assessment of critical materials for energy. This RFI will be issued by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE)’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office (AMMTO) on behalf of DOE with the purpose of improving the DOE Critical Materials Assessment, prior to finalization.

Upon its release, the RFI will be seeking public feedback on aspects of the DOE Critical Materials Assessment including a draft list of critical materials for energy to be included in the RFI and the Assessment, which will be released on or about May 30, 2023.

It is anticipated that the RFI may solicit public comment in the following Areas of Interest:

  • Data and Information to Support Revision of the Assessment
  • Improvements to the Assessment’s Methodology

This Notice is issued so that interested parties are aware of EERE’s intention to issue this forthcoming RFI. Once the RFI has been released, EERE will provide information for the public to respond.  To receive official notifications and information from EERE regarding this RFI, register in EERE eXCHANGE. When the RFI is released, public comment will be accepted only through an official email account that will be specified in the RFI.
