Yesterday, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in partnership with the Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CESMII), announced $2 million in funding to help manufacturers adopt smart manufacturing technologies and processes that will increase productivity, save energy, and boost competitiveness across energy-intensive industries. Accelerating smart manufacturing technologies – including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics – increases integration and automation, helping manufacturers monitor, evaluate, and improve their operations.
"Harnessing the power of smart manufacturing technologies will help our American manufacturers optimize their use of energy and materials " said Alejandro Moreno, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. "By increasing the sophistication of the manufacturing sector, this investment can help increase U.S. competitiveness on a global stage, create good-paying American jobs, and accelerate clean energy economy."
The request for proposals will work to address priorities identified in the CESMII Roadmap focusing on the two areas in Smart Manufacturing (SM): “Extended Impact Projects”, which seeks projects that use, augment, or extend existing SM technologies, and “Energy Demonstration Projects”, which seeks projects that use existing CESMII SM technologies to demonstrate energy benefits. Both project areas will look to demonstrate energy productivity and/or operational efficiency within energy-intensive industries, which include cement, chemicals, food, and steel.
The application deadline will be December 30, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. ET. For more information, visit the RFP landing page.
Founded in 2016, CESMII accelerates smart manufacturing adoption through the integration of advanced sensors, data analytics, platforms, and controls. It is the third Manufacturing USA institute funded by DOE’s Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies Office.
