Related to the discovery of excess sediment in fire suppression system piping and declaration of emergency impairment at the Hanford site.

On January 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Enterprise Assessments’ Office of Enforcement notified Hanford Laboratory Management and Integration, LLC of its intent to investigate potential noncompliances with DOE nuclear and worker safety program requirements (10 C.F.R. Parts 820 and 851) at the Hanford Site. These potential noncompliances relate to the discovery of excess sediment in the Building 222-S fire suppression system piping and the resulting emergency impairment of the building’s fire suppression system.
