On October 9, 2020, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Enterprise Assessments’ Office of Enforcement issued Enforcement Letter WEL-2020-04 to Consolidated Nuclear Security, LLC for deficiencies in implementing DOE’s worker safety and health program requirements (10 C.F.R. Part 851) associated with machine guarding and hazardous energy control programs and a worker injury that resulted in a finger amputation while workers were attempting to determine the motor torque on a malfunctioning lathe at the Y-12 National Security Complex.
