What We Are Doing
On October 9, Hurricane Milton made landfall as a category 3 hurricane near Siesta Key, Florida.
Department of Energy’s Response Organization remains activated and deployed in support of Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. This is DOE's dedicated team that responds to major energy-related emergencies, like widespread power outages caused by extreme weather events. Here’s a brief overview of DOE response activities:
- Collecting, evaluating, and sharing energy sector information and visualizations to promote shared situational awareness and a common operating picture
- Coordinating with interagency partners to identify supporting resources to stabilize and reestablish energy systems
- Providing technical expertise to assess damage to energy systems and assist with restoration, logistics, and longer-term recovery planning
