In 2021, women make up roughly 20-24% of the cybersecurity workforce – a big jump from 11 percent in 2014. Still, much progress remains to be made.
Recently, the Department of Energy’s (DOE)Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) Senior Advisor for Cybersecurity Cheri Caddy traveled to Denver, Colorado, to serve on an expert panel at the annual 2021 Women in Cyber Security (WiCyS) Conference.
Attended by over 1500 participants worldwide, the event emphasized the importance of recruiting, retaining, and advancing women from diverse backgrounds in cybersecurity and provided opportunities for attendees to learn from each other and grow their technical skills.
During the panel, Senior Advisor Caddy addressed cyber supply chain risk management alongside panelists from DOE's National Laboratories and DOE's manufacturing institute, CyMANII. The session covered cyber vulnerability testing capabilities, recent supply chain risk incidents such as Colonial Pipeline, as well as the importance of public-private partnerships in securing the U.S. energy sector.
