Secretary of Energy Rick Perry Announces First Shipment of U.S. Crude Oil to India

Following Prime Minister Modi’s visit with President Trump, Indian companies ramped up purchases of U.S. crude.

WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry announced that on October 2, 2017, the first-ever shipment of U.S. crude oil arrived in India. Following Prime Minister Modi’s visit with President Trump, Indian companies ramped up purchases of U.S. crude.

“I am proud of the collaborative work between the United States and India that will increase jobs, economic stability, and national security in both countries,” said Secretary Perry. “This event represents the growing and important strategic energy partnership between the U.S. and India, and I look forward to exploring new opportunities to expand the role of reliable, responsible, and efficient energy sources with our allies.”

The shipment was loaded at the Saint James, Louisiana and Freeport, Texas terminals and was received in Odisha, India by Indian Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan. More shipments will follow in coming months.
