Accelerating Innovative Breakthroughs and Reducing Residential Buildings Costs
As the eighth of the Energy Earthshots™, the Affordable Home Energy Shot was launched by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to decarbonize American homes and improve energy affordability nationwide.
Over one-third of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to America’s 130 million homes and commercial buildings, which use 38% of the nation’s energy and 74% of its electricity for power, heating, and cooling. DOE aims to reduce on-site energy use intensity in buildings 35% by 2035 and 50% by 2050 vs. 2005.
The Affordable Home Energy Shot provides affordable, scalable solutions that can upgrade buildings of all types, reducing emissions from U.S. homes.
