On January 3, 2008, the U.S. Department of Energy issued a Preliminary Notice of Violation (EA-2007-07) to Battelle Memorial Institute for violations of 10 C.F.R. Parts 830 and 835 associated with the December 15, 2006, airborne release of plutonium at the Radiochemical Processing Laboratory; the June 16,2007, spread of contamination from a leaking sealed source; and the failure to address assessment program deficiencies at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
