About 40% of Americans live in coastline counties, meaning those that border the ocean or one of our ocean-like Great Lakes. And that 40% of the population consumes about 80% of the country’s electricity. Offshore wind energy could be a huge help in contributing reliable and resilient energy to the U.S. electrical grid, but that doesn’t mean community members, local government officials, policy makers, developers, and many others don’t have questions about these technologies.

That’s why WETO funded the creation of a new comprehensive guide on the U.S. Department of Energy’s WINDExchange website. Skip between sections or try out the interactive graphics to learn about project anatomy and components; development processes; location siting and transmission infrastructure, government, Tribal, community, and public involvement; economic impacts; supply chain, ports, and vessels; and workforce roles and development activities—and more!
