Notifications about changes made to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE's) communications standards will be posted regularly, highlighting the latest updates to the Communications Standards website and important pages to note.

Today, we’re taking a look at the new brand and logo guidance for DOE and EERE.

DOE Branding Reminder

In October 2024, DOE unveiled a new logo and brand, including new fonts, color palettes and logos and identifiers for EERE offices

As part of the new DOE brand launch, EERE Communications created new templates for EERE materials. You can find links to these templates on both i2 and the Comms Standards Brand Guidelines page.

Please Sunset Your Logos

DOE no longer allows the development of new or the use of existing logos or brand identities for DOE-funded projects or programs, unless explicitly exempt by DOE Public Affairs. This includes logos created for projects, programs, prizes, competitions, and other initiatives.

Unless expressly given an exemption, all EERE program and/or project logos must be sunset, and all branding must align with the new DOE Brand Guidelines. Please work with your team and EERE Communications to sunset all existing EERE program and project logos. Moving forward, no new programs or projects will be allowed a logo; technology offices should only use the DOE logo and/or their office identifier. However, names and acronyms that you feel support content, messaging, and goals will be allowed in text.

If you feel you need a logo exemption or have questions about the logo sunsetting process and timeline, please reach out to Liz Penniman and your DAS communications lead. EERE External Affairs is also available to talk through messaging for your programs to ensure you reach your target audiences to meet program goals.

Branding and Logo FAQs

What Does This Mean for My Office?

Per DOE guidance, all office outreach should align with the new DOE brand.

All EERE offices should use the approved branding, which uses Aqua Blue (light blue), Verdant Green, and Electric Blue (dark blue) as the colorations on all materials.

The new font for designed materials will be Figtree, and the font for PowerPoint decks and Word technical documents will remain Arial.

Are Emails Affected by This Branding Update?

Yes, emails sent through GovDelivery must use the new email templates. These new templates carry DOE and EERE’s new branding and color palette. Templates are available for each DOE/EERE GovDelivery email distribution list, and any questions or requests should be sent to the EERE GovDelivery Team.

Can I Use Old Templates or Create My Own Templates with Office-Specific Branding?

No. Office branding is no longer allowed under the new DOE direction, and all offices should be using the approved EERE templates for all products and presentations.

However, you may use your office identifier on your products as needed.

If your product falls outside of the offered templates, please contact your tech office's designer or email the EERE Products and Branding Team to find a designer who will work with you to find an appropriate solution.

What About Products that are Already in Progress, such as Fact Sheets or Reports?

If your project started before Oct. 1, 2024, please contact the EERE Products and Branding Team for guidance. At a minimum, project/program websites and deliverables to be posted or printed are required to sunset project/program logos and adhere to the DOE brand.

If budgetary implications will impact your ability to sunset logos, please reach out to Liz Penniman for assistance from the EERE’s communications team.

Questions?

If you have questions about the updated branding and templates, please email the EERE Products and Branding Team.

If you have any questions or suggestions related to EERE communications standards or these emails, please reach out to the EERE Comms Standards Team.
