What We Are Doing

On Sept. 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene made landfall as a category 4 hurricane near Perry, Florida. 

Department of Energy’s Response Organization remains activated and deployed in support of Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. This is DOE's dedicated team that responds to major energy-related emergencies, like widespread power outages caused by extreme weather events. Here’s a brief overview of DOE response activities: 

• Collecting, evaluating, and sharing energy sector information and visualizations to promote shared situational awareness and a common operating picture 
• Coordinating with interagency partners to identify supporting resources to stabilize and reestablish energy systems 
• Providing technical expertise to assess damage to energy systems and assist with restoration, logistics, and longer-term recovery planning
