Asa Foss

Asa Foss is the advisor for existing multifamily and manufactured housing and non-energy benefits and indoor air quality in the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Building Technologies Office. At DOE, Foss supports the adoption of efficient, resilient, and healthy building practices, with a special focus on decarbonization. He has more than 20 years of experience in the residential energy efficiency and green building fields.

Prior to DOE, Foss led the design and launch of the ENERGY STAR NextGen™ Certified Homes and Apartments program at the Environmental Protection Agency. He also spent more than a decade at the U.S. Green Building Council, overseeing the development and implementation of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design residential rating system. His career began in Minnesota, working in the field with a master builder before launching Maryland’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program. Foss holds a master’s degree in international sustainable development and a bachelor’s degree in physics.
