The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) is launching the inaugural Treasure Hunt Challenge to assist federal agencies in strategically meeting their energy efficiency and operations and maintenance goals—including energy and water reduction, decarbonization, and electrification opportunities.

This free Treasure Hunt Challenge program helps agencies develop their own energy savings processes and measures. FEMP conducts site visits to selected agencies and recommends low-to-no-cost measures that can generate annual energy and water savings of up to 15% and provide a simple payback of less than one year.

Why Participate in the Treasure Hunt Challenge?

An active energy and water management program utilizes many approaches to reduce energy and water use. One possible component of an effective program is an interactive, iterative process that seeks out low-to-no-cost energy conservation measures (ECMs) and water conservation measures (WCMs).

The Challenge provides selected federal agencies with the opportunity to enhance their energy management program by:

  • Reducing their monthly utility bill by up to 15% with minimal upfront cost
  • Identifying low-to-no-cost ECMs and WCMs
  • Engaging all staff levels in the pursuit of everyday energy and water conservation
  • Calculating the simple payback of identified ECMs and WCMs
  • Enhancing site and agency energy awareness culture to maximize energy and water conservation efforts
  • Receiving post-event support from FEMP; including engagement with additional programs as appropriate.
