The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) held the Clean Fuels and Products Shot™ Summit on April 8, 2024, from 11am – 2pm ET, and April 9, 2024, from 11am - 4pm ET. Stakeholders across government, industry, academia, and non-profit organizations attended the two-day virtual event to learn about the Shot’s objectives, progress, priorities, and future plans.
Overview
The Clean Fuels & Products Shot aims to lower carbon emissions from the fuels and chemicals industry by utilizing more environmentally friendly carbon sources, targeting a minimum reduction of 85% in greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil-based sources by 2035. Additionally, it aims to meet 2050 projected demand for 100% of aviation fuel; 50% of maritime, rail, and off-road fuel; and 50% of carbon-based chemicals by using sustainable carbon resources.
This Energy Earthshot was launched in May 2023 at a ribbon-cutting event with Energy Secretary Jennifer M. Granholm at Idaho National Laboratory’s Biomass Feedstock National User Facility. It supports the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge and the Biden-Harris administration goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
